Surrendered effort in business

In Lie #57 I’m joined by the Founder and Creator of She Works His Way, Michelle Myers. Today we are going to debunk the myth that striving equals success. Michelle was a self-described chronic striver, switching her focus from school to relationships to eating, then to work. It wasn’t until she found herself completely overwhelmed with trying to make her life easier that she realized that instead of doing something less, she needed to love and trust God more. In this episode, we discuss what it means to have surrendered effort in business, true obedience, and living approved vs. living for approval.

Points from our conversation Striving Equal Success:

You’ll know if you’ve fallen into striving habits by your prayer life. We can’t say we’re doing the Lord’s work if we’re not talking to Him about it. Our prayer life should reflect our desperation for Him.

God has called us all to be a part of the body of Christ. His body should be everywhere that there are people who don’t know Him. That includes in a business, an organized ministry, or your own home.

The bend of social media is to stroke our egos, but we don’t have to choose to use it that way. Pray before you post that the message reaches who it needs to. Social media is an extension of your work, not the extent of it.

When we’re operating in surrendered effort, we realize we’re dependent on God to move. The outcome is not our responsibility, trust God for the result. Don’t worry about where you’re going, focus on where God has placed you right now.

When the mission of God frames our work, no work is purposeless, and no work is our primary purpose.

God has already approved you. We no longer have to strive for approval, we can live approved.

Key quotes for surrendered effort in business:

“Grace isn’t opposed to effort, it’s opposed to earning.”

“God’s will isn’t where He’ll take you someday, it’s where you are right now.”

“Obedience isn’t idle. Obedience is listening, doing what God says, and trusting Him with the results.”

“Work doesn’t always require a paycheck.”

swHw Business Tracker

Michelle had no idea what started as a Google hangout at 5am with three friends would one day result in the title of “founder” of she works His way. Almost six years later, with hundreds of women, gathered for the same reason we started: keeping God first in our lives, homes and careers. She’s the creator of Network Marketing Nobility and the swHw Business Tracker, the author of Famous in Heaven and at Home, and a certified StoryBrand Guide and Copywriter. Basically, her work happy place is pulling out of others what God already put in them. Home will always be her favorite place to be, which is wherever her family is: her husband, James, and their three children, Noah (8), Cole (6) and Shea (3).
